Chelmsford’s PaniC Awards ceremony upcoming

Chelmsford’s yearly awards ceremony, the PaniC Awards is coming up this Saturday and is expected to have a large turnout. Hosted in the Civic Theatre by Duke Street the award, which has now been running for nine years, uses the public’s votes to determine who receives one of the ten awards.

The awards are given in the following categories:

  • Band of the year
  • Venue of the year
  • Comedian of the year
  • Solo performer of the year
  • Theatre production of the year
  • DJ of the year
  • Outstanding local promoter
  • Outstanding regular night
  • Most popular festival

Until it recently went out of print, the PaniC (Performing Arts News in Chelmsford) magazine was a staple of Chelmsford’s entertainment news containing reviews, news, monthly listings and interviews with artists in fields such as music, theatre and dance.

Beginning at around 7:30pm, the event is hosted by local promo-guy and events organiser Andy Poole who also controlled the PaniC magazine from its inception until its cancellation. Tickets are priced at £6 and can either be bought online or on the door an hour before the event begins and all proceeds will go to charity.

Although voting is now closed nominations in 2016 have been far and wide and fans of local entertainment have sent out thousands of votes for their favourite entertainers and with Chelmsford’s local music scene beginning to slowly grow and the local venues becoming more popular, this year’s awards ceremony is expected to be the biggest yet.
